Saint Martin´s Procession in Ramstein

Saint Martin (Martin of Tours) was a Roman soldier who later became a monk and bishop. He is best known for sharing his cloak with a freezing beggar. His feast day is celebrated in Germany every year on November 11 as Saint Martin's Day. In memory of Saint Martin the Montessori Kindergarten in Ramstein holds a lantern procession. The celebration starts with a prayer featured by kids of the Montessori Kindergarten at the Ramstein Catholic Church at 5:30 p.m. Afterwards parents and their children carrying lanterns follow Saint Martin riding his horse through the streets of Ramstein. The procession is accompanied by musical entertainment. It ends on the church lawn where the Saint Martin´s bonfire will be lit. After that the Montessori Kindergarten hosts a cozy get-together. Saint Martin pretzels, sausages, children´s punch and “Glühwein” are offered. Anybody is cordially invited to participate in the Ramstein lantern parade are. Participation is free of charge.
