SAMHAIN Festival at the Celtic Village of Steinbach
SAMHAIN, the Celtic origin of Halloween, was the beginning of the New Year and winter. On that day the Celts feasted, they drunk and celebrated extensively. The Celtic Village, a settlement replica, opens its mighty gates on Halloween at 5 p.m. Swedish fires illuminate the venue. Visitors can expect an exciting program for the young and the old. Varied join-in activities such as spear throwing, crafting, baking twist bread and much more acquaint the guests with the everyday life of the Celts. A torchlight procession including a Druid ceremony starts at 7 p.m. and leads to the Celtic garden. There, the suspenseful story of the origin of the festival will be told. Afterwards, the handcrafted scarecrows will be burnt in the campfire, so that the good wishes for the New Year may come true. The Irish folk band “Heebie Jeebies" performs from 8 p.m. Four creative musicians play instrumental pieces as well as beautiful songs and ballads round “the Emerald Isle”. Celtic stew, mead and sausages are available. The event takes place from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m.
