Exhibition: Things You Should Know – 70 Years Ramstein Air Base

The Docu Center Ramstein is showing a special exhibition to mark the 70th anniversary of Ramstein Air Base. Under the title "Things You Should Know", the exhibition offers a look back at 7 decades of the coexistence of Germans and Americans in and around Ramstein. The history of Ramstein Air Base began in 1951 with the first construction works on a section of the unfinished Autobahn between Ramstein and Landstuhl. The official commissioning of the initially independent airfields "Landstuhl Air Base" and "Ramstein Air Base" is dated August 5, 1952. In 1957, both parts were combined and a little later only the term "Ramstein Air Base" was used. Since then, the air base has changed many times and at the same time has had a lasting impact on its environment and the people of the region. Using selected photographs and objects, the Docu Center now directs attention to individual aspects of this shared history. The bilingual exhibition can be visited until August 31, daily from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. (except Mondays) on the DCR premises (Schernauer StraĂźe 46) in Ramstein.
